Unit 10

 Task 1

(A)

I think myself as an actor has learnt so much in the first year of training at the collage but I still think there are area that will need to be work on.

Lets start with my strengths, The first area I want to look at is acting through genres, I think my strong genres for my acting is Comedy because I am very good at understand where the jokes  and comedic timing  are. Like playing Captain Hook for example working with Smee in most of our scene playing off each other, Leading onto my next strength being working and playing off other actors. Not just in Comedy but also in Dramatic plays as well I think I can work and play off well with other actors like when I play Chief Bromden and work with an actor called Callum Gordan who play R.P McMurphy when I did One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest. Another strength is my stage presents, The last year has help me understand different stage presents depending on what my role is. For example playing the role of Geppetto had more of a kind and friendly stage presents where my role as Curtis Jackson really commanded the stage.

Let’s talk about my weakness, the first area I would like to cover is understand of practitioner’s, I think it would help me if I started to do some work on different drama practitioners and it could me in different areas that I am weak in. One of the biggest areas I think is my facial expressions, I feel like I can really work on that technique because I think it can be a lot better then it already is now. Another genre I would like to develop my skills one is Dramatic and commentary. I have done a lot of musicals and played Comedic villains. It was not until I did One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest when I did my first dramatic play. I just need to do some work in the area as it still to be explored. Finally I say another weakness for me would be acting for screen. I think I just need to do some lesson or independent work in that area as I am quite new to screen acting but it link back to my facial expression as that is important for film acting.

Taking the leap from college into the world of acting, there is so much more that I am excited to learn from your course from movement to vocal work, history of theatre to the work of different practitioners,

Within six weeks of starting the course we were involved in an immersive theatre piece; this was in conjunction with a local theatre the Stockton Globe. I was fortunate enough to write a monologue that was used in the final performance, based on research of a local figure, Journalist William T stead who drowned on the Titanic, it was brilliant going into the mindset of such an interesting character and being in an immersive piece, breaking the fourth wall and really using my character analysis skills. We then moved on to performing a Musical Theatre piece - Peter Pan the British musical. Here I played Captain Hook in another local theatre, ARC in Stockton. As part of this performance I planned, organised and performed in a relaxed performance for schools and local groups, this was something I was so keen to do as being neurodivergent myself I know what a game changer being able to see theatre is for those who worry about the confines of this environment. This is a project I am proud of and will be running again this year. The National Theatres Connections project taught me a new range of skills, here I took on a new piece of contemporary theatre and travelled to our partner theatre "York Theatre Royal". As part of this process, we were given an hour-long script that has not been performed before. Our script required a lot of experimentation, physical theatre, and ensemble work, all were new experiences with new lessons learnt. Out of the 400+ groups in this project we were one of ten groups selected to perform at the Dorfman Theatre at the National. This was truly an honour and privilege that I won't ever forget and only further fuelled my ambitions. In my final performance of my first year at college, I performed in One flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. This has been my biggest challenge so far; I played the iconic role of Chief Bromden, a man of great stature but with an even greater emotional journey to play. I fully absorbed myself in every detail and piece of research that I could get my hands on, and I loved the camaraderie of the cast. We worked on such a brilliantly emotionally charged piece to finish our first year together. In addition to this, I also took part in a celebration of the Beatles and a play penned by my classmate Alan who wrote about his escape from the war in Ukraine called Snowdrop. For my screen time I have also completed two films a Thriller and a spy movie, both allowed me to get a greater understanding of acting for screen and the film production process. I have had some work experience outside of college with drama groups and at secondary school, I attend Stagecoach for 5 years, I was a part of Northfield's Theatre Company where I played Hans in The Thankful Soldier, Fagin in Oliver Twist and played Curtis Jackson in Sister Act. Another project I was apart was a student film with the Northern School of Art called Parallel. I have also performed a comedic role for a local autism charity ball from the success of performing at Autism Got Talent. Outside of college I love spending time with my family as they are my number one supporter's. I am also proud of my business as a market trader selling Lego to people and learning about their stories, I love to people watch as this helps me develop my character work in acting. My goal of further study at your institution is to become the best actor I can be and try and make a positive impact as well. I am hard working individual as I won student of the year, I can promise you that there is no challenge too big for me.

From watching back my Britannia waves the rules monologue, I think some of the strongest points is show my journey through the monologue. I like how I act when I was talking about before I joined the army I used a lot of slang and was very slouch back but by the end he was very well spoken and stood up straight. However I think I could improve on my facial expression as they seemed to only changed in certain parts and I needed to cut out some of the “ URGS” as it was really annoying and over done in my opinion.

From watch my Mayfly monologue, I would say my strongest point are the way I act scared and awkward during the scene I think I did a good job there and I thought I did a good job at the pause during the scene when it could be done. I also thought I did a good job with my hand gestures as it adds to the comedic value of the piece. However there was one thing that did bug me about this piece and it was my facial expression was awkward through the whole thing and in the piece he relaxes as he tell the story but my face could of done that part a lot better

From watching my Othello monologue, I think my strongest point where my Facial expression throughout the scene as my character Igor is so frustrated with Othello and wants to see his downfall. I think I played his passion and his thinking very well. I also like my hand expression through the scene as well. However I thought I place that need improvement was my voice, I thought that it went to high in moment that was just not right. I also think that my expression on certain parts at the end was wrong as I liked how I kept it very quiet and thinking and liking the idea but my expression of certain words kind of broke that moment.

After watching The Comedy of error monologue, I thought that my strongest points where my voice I had to show the different between my character and the other during the scene it added to the comedy element of the monologue. I also enjoyed my reactions throughout the scene even though no one was taking you could guess what they where saying thought my facial expressions. However I could of improved on the pacing of the piece, I thought that I could of slowed it down my reactions a little but because they went a little too fast in the reaction areas.

After watching The Merchant of Venice monologue there is a lot I could of improved on. I think my strongest point where the part I acted cocky when I talked about her or the “ oh my Antonio part “. However I thought the pacing of the monologue was terrible. It sounded like I was reading of a piece of paper and my voice made it sound like I forgot the lines every second. Then I did not like my acting in certain areas of the monologue, I thought it was I need to act more sad t

After watching I don’t care much  ( Song ). I thought that my strongest points where my facial expression, I thought I did a really good job at expressing the pain throughout the song. I also thought my eye line work was good as well. I was also impressed at my diction. However there was room for improvement, I thought that my vocal was good but there where some areas that did sound just a little off but it was nothing to noticeable. I also thought that I could of use my hand a little more During the beginning .

After looking at my stimulus piece for my royal central of drama and speech I have a few notes. I think my strongest point is my message and creativity from the image that was given to me. I liked my idea of seeing the bandage as couple or relationships. However my improvements would be I wish I spent more time planning on this piece because I thinking of could of sorted out the timing just a little better in places. I would also change the ending because looking back on it now it just seemed like a really weird way to end the piece.
