Unit 1 Principles of performance Part 1 – ‘Developing a well formed character’
Task 1
(A) there was two main rehearsals warms ups that we used that help us get into character. the first one we did was called what are you doing. the purpose of the game was everyone would get into a circle and one person would be in the middle. that person had to think on the spot of an action or something that they could do so it could be shopping or robbing. then someone would step into the middle and ask what are you doing and the person who is in the middle first would then say what that person had to do. what I learnt from this is how to be quick on your feet. so in the game when someone in the middle told you what u had to be u could not go urm or what you just had to do it. same in the performances if someone asked you what are you doing u have to responded quickly and not with urm or what. the second warm up we played as question splat. what this game is about is everyone would get into a circle and someone would be in the middle. and there would have too point at someone and they would duck down. the persons next too then would have to turn and answer the question. person who's the slowest would be out. this game helps us again with being fast on our feet. if an audiences member ask a question about the titanic and I could not go I don't know because I was on there of courses I would know. so we played this game so this would not happened to us in the real thing.
(B) a warm up I think would off be good to use in the group would be a game called mafia. so everyone would be spend around a room and the host would chose a killer and a detective. everyone would then walk around in there character and become there character. and they would responded too each death or talk with other character in there characters until the killer is found or everyone is dead. this would help everyone stay in character
task 2
( on different post )
task 3
so in the Stockton globe Halloween ghost tour I played a man called William T stead in the titanic section. this man was a really person and was a journalist for the northern Eco who died on the titanic. he was very famous for his time because he was fighting for rights for everyone. so how I was going to portray my character. for on outer perspective. I had to versions of my self. the first one being when they see me for the first time. I had the figure of a frozen corpse and move like one. with hands and legs staying still in place and moving very slowly. my inner perspective was very angry with the fact of how I know it was sunk. my second version was me before i sank even thought i look the same i acted a lot different. my outer was very normal like walking around acting like a gentleman. my inner was very relax and formal like a gentleman. before I say was I performed my first and last line. i need to talk about my directions and my staging. my directions that I was giving was to act very scary but respectable at the same time. the titanic room was the first room so we need to sent of a good example for the audiences for what was to come. for our room and staging we had the entrance to the Stockton globe which was really good because there a lot of entrances and exits people can come in and out from. and we had the most set in our with suitcase's that we could uses which is good as we had one of our cast member run out from the audiences making them scared which again was very good. now for my first and last line. the first time the audiences see me they are a a little scared as I creep up from the stair case. and I puke up water into a bucket. my first line is. " pardon my manner but when u been at the bottom of the Atlantic ocean for 111 Years, stuff like that tends to happen". my meaning be hide this was to act very scared but angry at the same time. my last line however is very different. the context is that William wrote a article at the same time of when jack the ripper was going about and acutely gave him him his name jack the ripper. my last line is " a mix of folklore history and presumed history " as i walk away saying we will meet again hinting the ending of the walkthrough.
Task 4
(A) when it come to this type of theatre there are mainly two different types. the first type is a promenade theatre and this is the type we did at the globe. this type of theatre has the audience walk around into different locations in side the location or theatre and interact with the actors. the other type is immersive theatre is where the audiences sits and the actor act around them so an example of this could be a murder mystery dinning experiences where the actor would at out what happening around them.
(B) the research that I did for the globe was all around William T stead. I know that he was born in Stockton ( Northamber ) in 1849. he worked for the northern eco and was very well known around the area for his work of human rights for both gender and colour. he also was one of the journalist that gave jack the ripper his name. in the newspaper when he right his own opinion on the police and what they should do and even one of the suspects who was a doctor. how he really fits into our pieces was his death on the titanic being one out of the only few first class people to die on the titanic. having a memorial plaque of him in Darlington ( outside the northern eco offices) London and new York and being one of the only people to die on the titanic around this area.
Task 5
as an Evaluation on me and my Groups pieces I think overall we did really good with some pros and some cons. lets start as a group overall before moving onto and individual level. The pros I wanted to say about my performance is that we really scared the audience. We had the pressure of being the first group that the audience would see in the whole performance’s so we did need to set the bar high. And I think we did that really well. From me coming out from the stair well slowly to create suspense and our frozen 3 class victim to come run into the audience scaring them was also really good. another thing what was good was me and the chef dialog and how we kelp in character all the way through. I think the only thing I think we could do better on our section could be was when I drag off the 3rd class victim as on one of the nights because of where the audience was angle they could see I did not drag her off all the way. But I think as a group that the only thing we could work on for next time and how we could used entrances and exits better. Now for my individual performance. There is lots a pros I want to start with. First of all my research to the person himself. I could not of gave the performance I did if I knew nothing about him. Second the way I understood him. The way I understood him as his character and how was portrayed him was really good. from when I did my human to frozen corpse form I was angry and sad when cold but from happy and worried when I was in human. Next thing would be my body language throughout the performance. I like how I went from my horrible looking slow frozen form into my smart alive form as I think it really help’s with the whole story telling of the show. Lastly I liked how I interacted with the audience. The thing I could improve on from my family members in the audience are that I could have been more scary. That I should of got closer with the audiences and maybe acted a little bit more scared. Another thing was to rag out my body figure a little longer as after I puked up the water I went straight into my alive self instead of my dead self for a few lines. So after looking at all the pros and cons I think to make my next year performance even better is by if I was going to be more scary go for a more scarier role or if I got a role that was not so scary I could make him by being up more in the audience faces. I could do this by maybe shouting or jumping into the faces a little more like I did for William T Stead.
